Where to Next?!: My Dream Destinations

With much of the world still on lock down and not allowing in travelers from the US, I’m stuck home dreaming of the trips I’m longing to take.

This is a list of the places I’ve not yet been. Some have been on my list for years and some are newly discovered dreams. I feel like writing them down and sharing them is a great reminder that we WILL travel again! So this is for both you and for me as we dream about the incredible trips to come.

My Dream Trips List:

At the start of the pandemic, I really believed I was going to be able to make it to Iceland this Fall. *Spoiler alert:* It’s not happening. BUT, I’m determined to get there ASAP! I’m dreaming of the Blue Lagoon and discovering the charming city of Reykjavik. A full-day Golden Circle tour will absolutely be part of this trip. And of course, I’m hoping to catch the Northern Lights!

New Zealand
I was so bummed when I couldn’t extend my Australia trip to include New Zealand. So close, yet so far. There are 658320057 places I want to see here, so I’m thinking a two or three week trip around the entire country (both islands) would do the trick. Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, and Wellington are on my list for the northern island. I’ve done a significant amount of research into Maori culture and can’t wait to experience it firsthand in Rotorua! Then, I’d hop over to the southern island to see Kaikoura, Christchurch, Franz Joseph Glacier, Queenstown, Milford Sound … Yeah maybe this needs to be a month-long trip!

Bali & Thailand
In a perfect world, I’d love to do a solo trip to relax on beautiful beaches in Bali and Thailand. I’ve had my heart set on staying at Cassia Phuket since discovering it last year. Definitely can’t travel to Thailand without a stop in Chiang Mai since I’ve heard such amazing things about it! In Bali, I’d love to visit Tanah Lot and stay near Seminyak Beach or Canggu. Quite honestly, I think I’d just be happy to be there!

Scotland & Wales
To complete my quest of the British Isles, I’m aiming to do a joint trip to Scotland and Wales. Hiking Brecon Beacons National Park is high on my to-do list in Wales. I’d also like to see Pen y Fan and Snowdonia National Park. Also have to visit Cardiff and see some castles!! In Scotland, I have to visit Edinburgh and Glasgow, plus Loch Ness and Loch Lomond. I have a hunch that this trip might do quite a number on my liver with all of those fun pubs …

I mean, duh. Pizza, pasta, wine, history– Italy is a dream destination for so many people and it is so easy to see why! I’d love to visit Rome, Venice, Florence, Umbria, Sicily, Amalfi, Sorrento, Positano, Lake Como … the list goes on and on … and on. I feel like Italy is a place I’ll have to visit multiple times, and I’m not complaining about that!

Greece is another spot I feel like I’ll need to visit multiple times. I’m dreaming of an island hopping trip, complete with high-speed ferry rides between islands. Of course, Athens is a must for the history. But Santorini, Mykonos, Corfu, Crete … So many beautiful destinations. The crystal clear blue waters and white buildings are calling my NAME!

This is definitely a more recent add to my list, but I cannot get images of Croatia out of my head! After spending a few months researching Croatian destinations at the start of the year for my old job, I fell in love. I’m thinking a cruise to Dubrovnik, Plitvice Lakes National Park, Hvar, Zagreb, Split, and more will do the trick! I’m eager to explore the culture and rich history here, and also to get lost in some gorgeous national parks!

South African Safari
One of my absolute DREAAAM trips is to do a South African safari! I’d first go to Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban to experience city life and culture. Then I’d head to Kruger National Park for an authentic game reserve experience searching for the Big Five! There are so many incredible reserves to visit in South Africa. Ideally I’d love to visit a few just to experience more of the wildlife and landscape. One day, I will absolutely make this happen. Until then, I will dream about it.

Where on this list have you been?! I’d love to hear your travel tips & itineraries!
